In Bloom: Growing Joy, Cultivating Community
Rachel’s love for all things beautiful and whimsical welcomes you the moment you step into the quaint In Bloom on Main Street, Canandaigua. Here you can order flowers for weddings and parties, pick up a “just because” bouquet, and find a variety of charming gifts, household decor, and houseplants. Rachel has been designing flower arrangements professionally since 2004, but her creative spirit is deeply rooted in her childhood and that passion is on display in every corner of her cozy shop.
Rachel’s parents were both avid gardeners and her mother was often coming up with craft projects to entertain her - she was skilled at transforming scraps of things around into beautiful art. Rachel describes one Christmas when her mom had procured some velvet pieces, colorful pins, and ribbon for them to make ornaments; as she shares this memory Rachel notes the soft heart shaped beaded creations above our heads which she says remind her of that project, a realization that delights us both.
In addition to designing beautiful wedding and special event flowers, Rachel is also on a mission to make houseplants and blooms more accessible to people. We talked about the art of propagating and how she has found that learning more about the process brings so much joy to people.

Not only will you learn about the many options for that desk plant you are looking for, but you can also purchase a beautiful container and Rachel will pot it before you leave while giving you tips to keep it thriving - an experience that feels special and decidedly small town, in the very best way.
Partnering with local vendors is a priority and when Rachel needs something she can’t find in our backyard, she is a fierce advocate for sourcing from women owned businesses. Her shelves reflect that commitment and shoppers will find pottery, candles, art, gifts and more that support women owned and run businesses from here to the UK.
More than just a shop that sells flowers, this business owner is cultivating the idea that authentic feelings can be communicated through a thoughtful bouquet paired with an earnest note and Rachel is honored to facilitate those meaningful connections. She believes that dirt is meditative and that we shouldn’t discount the importance of our surroundings when it comes to influencing our mood and nervous system.
